The Ethan Cohen Fine Arts Gallery is exhibiting Face To Face, a group exhibition that brings us the visual dialogue of portraiture interpreted by a multicultural group of artists. Ethan Cohen has been a pioneer in representing and exposing Contemporary Chinese Art to the American market for over 25 years. The gallery’s roster is composed by a diverse range of international art from emerging and established artists, including Ai WeiWei, Xu Bing, and Gu Wenda.
Face to Face provides us with a vast representation of genre portrait from a talented and multidimensional group of artists hailing from Africa, China and the Western contemporary art. Genre painting is one of the earliest forms of artistic portrayal throughout history. It gives us an expressive insight into foreign cultures, traditions, and perception of how they see themselves, others, & vice-versa.
“The aim of Art is to present not the outward appearance of things, but their inner significance; for this, not the external manner and detail, constitutes true reality.” Aristotle
Each of the works promotes a personal aspect of authenticity where the artists tell their message via different forms of media, aesthetics and personification. The use of a cohesive color palette throughout the works gives the presentation a harmonious vibe that helps bring the exhibition together.
Face to Face features works by Aboudia, Fang Lijun, Frank Hyder, Gonçalo Mabunda, Greg Haberny, Huang Yan, Jon Kessler, Kyle Hackett, Li Daiyun, Li Lin, Mina Cheon, Qi Zhilong, Tabitha Vevers, Vincent Michéa, Yuan Yunsheng, Yue Minjun, Zhang Dali, Zhang Hongtu, Zhang Xiaogang.
