AMERINGER | McENERY | YOHE is hosting “HOWCANISLEEPWITHROCKSINMYBED” a new show by the experimental and color aficionado artist Markus Linnenbrink.
A minimalist wall installation of multi-colored stripes salutes you as you enter the sunlit space. The mural is uniformed but is not the simplest of the works. Evidence of Linnenbrink’s color drip technique can be spotted at the bottom edge, an insight to the artist’s creative process. “Though he selects where the colors begin at the top of the panel, the liquid interacts with gravity to “draw” vertical stripes over photographs or watercolor backgrounds.” making gravity his biggest ally and assistant throughout the creation process.
The works’ gloss, vibrant colors and forms are reminiscent of childhood’s sweet confections like jawbreakers and rainbow sour. Yet again, Markus Linnenbrink amazed us with a presentation that is visually stimulating and tempting to touch.
The level of complexity builds up as you approach the circular sculpture next to the mural. Even though both pieces share equal color and pattern aesthetics, the circular sculpture holds an assortment of items ranging from a key, a bobby pin and a paint brush. Could this be a form of time capsule for the artist?
